I know that sometimes the holiday season can be challenging for children with special needs and their families. That’s why I’ve put together a few quick reminders to help make this time as peaceful and special as possible for your entire family.
Keep it simple
Keep it simple. Just the change in the schedule over the holidays can be difficult for kids with special needs. Keep things as simple as possible and enjoy!
Plan one LESS thing
Plan one LESS thing than you think your family can do successfully. We so often push right up to the moment when things fall apart. Instead, stop when things are successful and celebrate those successes!
Be thankful
Be thankful for where your family is. Your holiday season may look very different than other families and that is okay. (More than okay, it’s perfect!)
Take time for YOU
Take time for YOU! There will always be one more thing to do, one more must-do, but remember, if you don’t take time for yourself than even less will get done. You matter!
If at first, you don’t succeed, try try again!
Be okay with things not going well and then try again. Not every activity or event will go as smoothly as you would like. That’s okay. If it doesn’t go well, stop, regroup, and try again!
Now go and enjoy the holidays and remember. You have so much to be thankful for and you’ve got this!!!
